    Record of Service:

     

    Michael McCarthy was born on the 9th of February 1918 in Bogantungan, Queensland. He was working as a Labourer when he enlisted in the 2nd A.I.F on the 13th of July 1943.

     

    Michael was allocated service number QX53880 and saw service with the 2/33rd Infantry Battalion. His exact service details are unknown as his service dossier is yet to be accessed through the NAA site. Post war he continued to serve in the army and was part of the BCOF forces, he was still serving in 1980. He died in 1995.

     

    Michael was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal whilst serving with the Australian Army Catering Corps in January 1963. Listed in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No.1, 3rd of January 1963.
