Wilfred Peak was born on the 14th of November 1924 in West Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted in the Militia on the 20th of March 1943 and was allocated service number N454013.
On the 26th of March 1943 Wilfred marched out to the 2nd Australian Artillery Training Regiment. On the 18th of January 1944 a warrant was issued for his arrest, he was found guilty of AWL and sentenced to 28 days detention.
Wilfred embarked from Townsville for New Guinea on the 27th of December 1944. He arrived at Bougainville on the 10th of February 1945 and was taken on strength with the 2nd Field Regiment. He returned to Australia on the 1st of April 1946 and was discharged on the 7th of June 1946.
Wilfred applied for a re-issue of his WW2 service medals in 1980, declaring that his originals had been lost in the 1955 Maitland floods. In 1998 he applied for his 1945-75 Australian Service Medal – PNG.
