    Record of Service:

     

    Neville Downing was born on the 13th of February 1922 in Jarrow, England. He served with the British Army during WW2, was allocated service number 4453988 and joined the Pioneer Corps. He was discharged on the 31st of August 1946.

     

    Neville emigrated to Australia on the 29th of June 1950 and joined the Australian Army. He was allocated service number 3400118 and served with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment during the Korean War from the 28th of September 1950 to the 2nd of November 1950. Neville was Wounded in Action between 25th of October and the 5th of November 1950.

     

    Neville’s service dossier is yet to be accessed through the NAA site, so his exact service details are unknown, however he is listed on the casualty list as “WIA” in the Melbourne Argus on the 14th of November 1950. He is also listed as “WIA” in Neil Smith’s “Home By Christmas.”

     

    Neville died in New South Wales on the 29th of June 1999.

    Neville’s WW2 British Army Medal Card confirms his medal entitlement and that his WW2 medals were claimed on the 3rd of March 1994. His Korean War medals are impressed and likely to have been claimed around the same time.
