    Clive Gordon was born on the 2nd of August 1895 in Warwick, Queensland. He was working as a Saddler in Canley Vale when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 5th of October 1914. He embarked from Sydney on the 21st of December 1914 with the 7th Company, AASC.

     

    On the 12th of April 1915 Clive embarked for the Gallipoli Peninsula and active service abroad. On the 1st of March 1916 he was promoted to Saddler Corporal and on the 6th of June 1916 embarked to join the B.E.F in France. On the 22nd of January 1917 Clive was detached for temporary duty with the Pack Transport Troop.

     

    On the 7th of April 1917 Clive was Wounded in Action (GSW abdomen and leg) which resulted in the amputation of his right leg mid-thigh. He returned to Australia on the 16th of March 1918 and was discharged on the 24th of November 1918. He died on the 13th of May 1951.

     

    Clive’s father, Sergeant Major Archibald George Gordon also served during WW1. Archibald was a permanent soldier and a veteran of the Boer War. He had served previously with the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry at the Relief of Mafeking and in Rhodesia.
