Charles Farrant was born on the 4th of November 1893 in Yarmouth, England. He emigrated to Australia and was working as a Lay Reader in Victoria when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 8th of October 1914. He was allocated service number 5075 and embarked from Melbourne with the 3rd Light Horse Brigade Train – 12th A.S.C on the 2nd of February 1915.
When the 12th A.S.C was disbanded in March 1916, Charles transferred to H.Q. A.S.C ANZAC Mounted Division. On the 14th of April 1916 he was taken on strength with the 25th Howitzer Brigade and on the 23rd of November 1916 was taken on strength with the 3rd D.A.C. The next day he proceeded overseas to France.
On the 16th of March 1917 Charles was charged and awarded 4 days field punishment for “Using improper language to an N.C.O.” On the 22nd of July 1917 he transferred to the 5th F.A.B and on the 28th of October 1917 was admitted to hospital – Sick. He spent the remainder of the war with the 2nd D.A.C and returned to Australia on the 2nd of March 1919. He discharged from the 3 M.D on the 21st of June 1919.
Charles returned to England in June 1925 and died there on the 18th of September 1976.
