Record of Service:
Patrick Barnett was born about 1896 in London, England. He was 17 years old when he emigrated to Australia and was working as a Labourer in New South Wales when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 16th of February 1915. He was allocated service number 1724 and embarked from Sydney on the 17th of March 1915 with the 4th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion.
For reasons unknown Patrick enlisted under the alias of George Bernard Bennett (which is noted on his attestation papers). He joined the 4th Battalion at Gallipoli on the 5th of September 1915 and was mortally wounded the following day. Officially listed as Wounded in Action (G.S.W lung) on the 6th of September 1915.
Patrick was admitted to hospital at Malta on the 8th of September 1915, sadly he died of his wounds received at Gallipoli, on the 27th of September 1915. He now rests in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
Notes:
Please note all medals are correctly named to Bennett (not Barnett) as Bennett is the name he enlisted under.
