Leopold Wilms was born on the 1st of January 1886 in East Melbourne, Victoria. Leopold married Mildred Maud Taylor in 1912 and was a Grazier from Brushy Creek when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 5th of April 1916. He was allocated service number 22387 and embarked from Melbourne on the 20th of May 1916 with the 23rd Howitzer Brigade, 109 Battery.
Leopold disembarked at Plymouth on the 18th of July 1916 and was taken on strength with the 7th F.A.B on the 6th of January 1917. Leopold survived the war and returned to Australia on the 11th of May 1919. He was discharged on the 11th of August 1919.
There is an interesting newspaper article in the Northern Star, 19th of October 1932, involving his divorce to Mildred where Leopold is said to have once owned a 10,000 pound property, but was now penniless.
His son QX35130 Colin Wilms was accidently killed on the 17th of February 1943 whilst serving in Charters Towers with the 8th Motor Ambulance Convoy.
