Record of Service:
William Mealing was born about 1865 in Brandon, Suffolk, England. He was a Fruiterer with previous service with the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards (11 years) when he joined and was posted to the 3rd Dragoon Guards, as a Corporal, on the 20th of March 1901.
William was allocated service number 4929 and served in South Africa with the 3rd Dragoon Guards from the 28th of November 1901 until his untimely death on the 28th of November 1903. William died at Harrismith on the 28th of November 1903 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
