Record of Service:
Arthur Gray was born about 1876 in Bitton, Gloucestershire, England. He was working as a Gardener when he enlisted on the 19th of September 1895. Arthur was allocated service number 4056 and was posted to the 16th Lancers.
Arthur served at home from the 19th of September 1895 until the 9th of November 1896. He served in India from the 10th of November 1896 until the 21st of January 1900. He sailed with the Regiment from Bombay and served in South Africa from the 22nd of January 1900 until the 14th of December 1900. (During that time the 16th Lancers were involved in the Battle of Paardeberg and the action at Klipt Drift on the 15th of February 1900 and the Relief of Kimberley).
Following three months back home, Arthur returned to South Africa on the 3rd of March 1901 where he served until the 2nd of June 1903. Arthur transferred to the Army Reserve on the 3rd of June 1903 and was discharged on the 18th of September 1907.
