Record of Service:
Godfrey Hely-Wilson was born on the 4th of September 1914 in Rosewood, Queensland. He enlisted in the 2nd A.I.F on the 1st of April 1940 and was allocated service number QX7040.
Godfrey marched into the 23rd Depot Company in Brisbane on the 1st of April 1940 and was taken on strength with the 1st Corps Signals on the 3rd of June 1940. On the 26th of December 1940 he embarked Sydney for the Middle East. On the 14th of March 1941 he was detached to the 9th Australian Div. Sigs, where he served during the Siege of Tobruk until the 30th of August 1941. (This service qualifying him as a Rat of Tobruk).
On the 16th of February 1942 Godfrey embarked from the Middle East and arrived in Adelaide on the 6th of April 1942. On the 8th of April 1942 he was taken on strength with H.Q Sigs and on the 29th of December 1942 joined the 1st Australian Army Sigs. After training he joined the 14th Line Section and embarked from Townsville for Lae, New Guinea on the 29th of March 1945. On the 2nd of September 1945 he transferred to holding strength QLD L of C for discharge.
Post war Godfrey worked with the PMG and was awarded the ISM in 1972.
Godfreys Sister, QFX6102 Captain Hely-Wilson also served in WW2 with the 2/2nd A.G.H.
