    Record of Service:

     

    Thomas Carter was born about 1832 in Bury, Lancashire, England. He was allocated service number 65 and joined the 84th Regiment on the 21st of November 1856.

     

    Thomas was promoted to Corporal on the 8th of March 1865 and Sergeant on the 25th of May 1868. He served with the 84th Regiment during the Indian Mutiny and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal with the clasp Lucknow.

     

    Thomas discharged from the 84th Regiment on the 4th of December 1877 having served 21 years, which included service in the East Indies, West Indies and Halifax Nova Scotia. He was recommended and awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1875.

     

    Following his discharge from the 84th Regiment he joined the 4th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (militia) where he continued to serve for a further nine years.
