Record of Service:
Charles Winwood was born on the 9th of July 1900 in Esk, Queensland. He was working as a Blacksmith when he enlisted (under age) in the A.I.F on the 9th of February 1918. At the time of enlistment Charles incorrectly stated that his date of birth was the 9th of July 1899. He was allocated service number 53274 and embarked from Sydney on the 8th of May 1918 with the 3rd Queensland General Service Reinforcements (G.S.R).
Charles disembarked at Liverpool on the 10th of July 1918 and proceeded overseas to France on the 4th of October 1918. On the 11th of October he transferred from the G.S.R to the 9th Battalion. On the 1st of December 1918 he transferred to the 1st Divisional Ammunition Column and was appointed to Shoeing Smith.
Charles returned to Australia on the 22nd of August 1919 and was discharged in the 1st M.D on the 6th of November 1919. He married Ethel Hill in Queensland in 1921 and post war worked as a Rigger.
