Vivian Johnston was born on the 2nd of February 1897 in Ipswich, Queensland. He was working as a Motor Mechanic when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 26th of September 1916. Vivian was allocated service number 13497 and embarked from Melbourne with the 1st Reinforcements, Australian Auxiliary Mechanical Transport Company on the 22nd of December 1916.
Vivian disembarked at Devonport on the 3rd of March 1917 and was taken on strength with the 5th Division Supply Column on the 15th of April 1917. He proceeded overseas to France on the 20th of June 1917. On the 22nd of July 1917 he was taken on strength with “K” Supply Column. When “K” Supply Column was disbanded in March 1918 Vivian was taken on strength with the 6th Australian Motor Transport Company.
On the 28th of June 1918 Vivian was charged for driving a motor lorry at an excessive speed. (Awarded a loss of one days pay). Vivian survived the war and returned to Australia on the 1st of July 1919. He died in Brisbane on the 28th of December 1967.
