    Henry Devlin was born on the 15th of March 1886 in Lutwyche, Queensland. He was working as a Labourer when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 6th of August 1915. He was allocated service number 1705 and embarked from Sydney on the 4th of October 1915 with the 11th Reinforcements, 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance.

     

    On the 1st of December 1915 Henry proceeded to join the M.E.F at Gallipoli and on the 9th of December 1915 joined the 2nd LHFA at Mudros. Following the M.E.F campaign Henry served with the E.E.F in Sinai and Palestine. On the 11th of November 1916 he is noted as “on detachment” at Abu Tellul. At Rafa, on the 20th of March 1917, he was charged for “using insubordinate language and disobeying a lawful command from a superior officer.”

     

    Henry transferred to the 14th Australian General Hospital, at Port Said, on the 21st of February 1918. He survived the war and returned to Australia on the 2nd of August 1919. Sadly, he died not long after discharge on the 12th of December 1920.

     

    Henry’s brother, 1157 Staff Sergeant Joseph Delvin, also served during WW1.
