Record of Service:
Patrick Delaney was born about 1879 in Galway, Ireland. He was working as a Labourer in Fitzroy, Victoria when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 17th of June 1915. On enlistment Patrick stated previous military service with the Connaught Rangers during the South African War. He was allocated service number 2470 and embarked from Melbourne on the 16th of July 1915 with the 7th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion.
Patrick joined the 8th Battalion at Gallipoli on the 13th of December 1915 and on the 24th of February 1916 transferred to the 60th Battalion. On the 18th of June 1916 he proceeded to join the B.E.F in France. On the 19th of July 1916 (first day of the Battle of Fromelles) he was reported as missing.
A court of enquiry held on the 4th of August 1917 confirmed that he had been Killed in Action on the 19th of July 1916.
