    James Wood was born about 1896 in White Chapel, England. He was working as a printer and living with his parents in Richmond, Victoria when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 19th of July 1915. He was allocated service number 4616 and embarked from Melbourne on the 28th of January 1916 with the 14th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion.

     

    James disembarked at Suez on the 28th of February 1916 and was taken on strength with the 58th Battalion, from the 8th Battalion, on the 1st of April 1916. On the 17th of June 1916 he proceeded to join the B.E.F, just in time for the Battle of Fromelles. James was Wounded in Action (S.W. legs) on the 19th of July 1916 (first day of the Battle of Fromelles).

     

    James returned to Australia on the 13th of February 1917 and was discharged M.U from the 3rd M.D on the 22nd of June 1917. He died on the 21st of June 1980.
