    Record of Service:

     

    Sylvester Lewis was born on the 12th of September 1871 in Narrabri, New South Wales. He was working as a Labourer in Brisbane when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 27th of December 1916. He was allocated service number 3072 and embarked from Sydney on the 7th of February 1917 with the 7th Reinforcements, 42nd Battalion.

     

    Sylvester disembarked at Devonport on the 11th of April 1917 and joined the A.I.F details. On the 13th of May 1917 he was admitted to hospital (Tonsilitis). On the 20th of May 1917 he was reported AWL however returned to hospital five days later suffering from Influenza. On the 26th of September 1917 he returned to Australia and was discharged from the 1 M.D on the 29th of December 1917.

     

    Sylvester’s son, 6128 Ernest Lewis, served with the 9th Battalion in WW1.
