Record of Service:
William Sandford was born on the 4th of December 1881 in Scotland. He was working as a Wharf Labourer in New Zealand when he enlisted in the N.Z.E.F on the 19th of November 1917. He was allocated service number 78719 and embarked from Wellington on the 10th of July 1918 with “A” Company, 40th Reinforcements.
William disembarked in London on the 9th of September 1918 and joined the NZRB on the 3rd of October 1918. Suffering from defective vision he returned to N.Z on the 28th of December 1918 and was discharged on the 26th of February 1919. He died in Christchurch on the 8th of September 1968.
