    Archibald Smith was born on the 27th of April 1876 in Horsham, Victoria. He was working as a Labourer in Port Adelaide, South Australia when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 27th of September 1915. He was allocated service number 686 and embarked from Adelaide on the 12th of November 1915 with the 3rd Squadron, 1st Australian Remount Unit.

     

    On the 1st of April 1916 Archibald was taken on strength with the 24th Howitzer Brigade and posted to the 111th Battery. On the 3rd of June 1916

    he proceeded to join the B.E.F in France and on the 25th of January 1917 transferred to the 10th F.A.B, 39th Battery. On the 18th of April 1917 he transferred to the 11 F.A.B, 43rd Battery.

     

    Archibald survived the war and returned to Australia on the 1st of May 1919. He discharged from the 5 M.D on the 24th of July 1919. He died in Perth, Western Australia on the 12th of September 1925.
