Additional Information
Record of Service:
William Newland was born about 1884 in Sydney, New South Wales. He was a 17-year-old boy working as a Rouse-about when he volunteered for active service abroad, during the Boer War. He was allocated service number 3098 and upon arriving in South Africa served with the 3rd New South Wales Imperial Bushmen.
William died of Enteric Fever at Zeerust, South Africa on the 10th of July 1901. He was the son of William Henry and Susannah Newland. He was just 17 years of age when he died.
Notes:
William is also entitled to the South Africa 1901 clasp to his QSA. Also, one rivet joining the CC bar to the OFS bar is missing and has been re-attached using wire.
His QSA has been impressed with the surname NEWLANDS (instead of NEWLAND) he is listed on the Medal roll as Newlands and the “S” has had a line struck threw it, a simple enough oversight.
