    Record of Service:

     

    William Muirhead was born on the 19th of November 1882 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was working as a Drysalter Chemist when he joined the British Army on the 19th of November 1900. He was allocated service number 14705 and served during the Boer War with the 17th Stationary Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps.

     

    Post war William continued to serve and was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 12th of January 1904, Corporal 19th of October 1904 and Sergeant on the 1st of October 1905. Following the outbreak of WW1, William was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on the 10th of August 1914 and he entered France on the 14th of August 1914.

     

    On the 6th of February 1915 William was promoted to Sergeant Major and was twice Mentioned in Despatches in February 1915 and January 1916. He was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1918 and he discharged from the army on the 5th of March 1918.
