Record of Service:
Henry Polhill was born on the 20th of May 1878 in Hastings, Sussex, England. He joined the British Army and was allocated service number 11123. He served as a Corporal in the Royal Army Medical Corps with No. 13 General Hospital during the Boer War.
The remarks column on his medal roll for the QSA states that he was sent to the West Coast of Africa. He is confirmed on the roll for Medical Staff of the Ashanti Field Force entitled to the Ashanti Medal.
On the 21st of February 1915 Henry was promoted to Honorary Lieutenant and his Medal Index Card shows that he served in France from the 31st of May 1915. He was Mentioned in Despatches for Gallant and Distinguished Service on the 15th of June 1916. He was promoted to Captain on the 21st of February 1918 and retired from the army on the 14th of April 1923.
Henry died in Natal, South Africa on the 19th of August 1952.
