    Record of Service:

     

    Maxwell Gordon was born on the 25th of August 1916 in Glenorchy, Tasmania. He enlisted in the Militia on the 4th of January 1940 and was allocated service number T255583. He was serving with the 6th Garrison Battalion when he enlisted in the 2nd A.I.F on the 26th of July 1940. He was re-allocated service number TX4014 and joined the 7th DAC (Divisional Ammunition Company) on the 28th of July 1940.

     

    Maxwell embarked from Sydney on the 18th of October 1940 and disembarked in the Middle East on the 24th of November 1940. On the 8th of June 1941 he was detached for duty with the 2nd Reserve Motor Transport Company. On the 13th of January 1942 he transferred to the 4th Company, AASC and on the 24th of March 1942 returned to Australia.

     

    On the 13th of April 1943 Maxwell was taken on strength with the 1st Australian Army, AASC and on the 7th of March 1944 transferred to the 2nd Australian Beach Workshop, AEME. On the 16th of March 1945 he embarked from Cairns for New Guinea and he served in Balikpapan from the 28th of March 1945.

     

    Maxwell survived the war and discharged on the 29th of January 1945. He died on the 14th of July 2002.

     

    Notes:

     

    Maxwell applied and received his WW2 service medals in 1983.
