Record of Service:
William Barncastle was born on the 5th of April 1881 in Newtown, New South Wales. He was working as a Platelayer when he joined the A.I.F on the 16th of March 1916. He was allocated service number 15694 and embarked from Sydney on the 31st of October 1916 with the Engineer Reinforcements.
William disembarked at Plymouth on the 9th of January 1917 and proceeded overseas to France on the 13th of April 1917. On the 21st of May 1917 he was taken on strength with the 2nd Field Company Engineers. On the 20th of September 1917 he was Wounded in Action, (Blown up by a shell).
On the 21st of June 1918 he returned to his unit and on the 1st of November 1918 transferred to the AAMC. He returned to Australia on the 24th of January 1919 and was discharged M.U from the 2 M.D on the 16th of August 1919.
William died on the 14th of May 1935, his death attributed to war service.
