George Palmer was born on the 20th of November 1890 in Maryborough, Queensland. He was working as a Chauffeur in Rockhampton when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 2nd of October 1916. He was allocated service number 18166 and embarked from Sydney on the 2nd of August 1917 with the April 1917 Engineer Reinforcements.
George disembarked at Glasgow on the 2nd of October 1917 and proceeded overseas to France on the 16th of February 1918. On the 16th of March 1918 he was taken on strength with the 5th Field Company Engineers, who he served with for the duration of the war. On the 27th of February 1919 he was detached to the 7th F.C.E and joined the A.I.F HQ in London on the 28th of April 1919.
George returned to Australia on the 7th of September 1919 and was discharged from 1 M.D on the 24th of November 1919. He married Dorothy Morrison in March 1924 and was working as the Manager of the ANZAC Club in Brisbane when he died on the 27th of August 1948.
