Leslie Congdon was born on the 10th of January 1893 in Chain of Ponds, South Australia. He was working as a Butcher when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 3rd of December 1914. Initially he was allocated service number 602 and joined the 9th Light Horse Regiment. On the 11th of February 1915 he was transferred to the Reinforcements.
On the 16th of December 1915 Leslie re-enlists and is allocated service number 2321. He joined the Signal School on the 3rd of February 1916 and embarked from Sydney on the 12th of May 1916 with the 16th Reinforcements, 1st Light Horse Regiment. He disembarked at Suez on the 16th of June 1916 and on the 29th of July 1916 was attached to HQ Australian Training Depot.
On the 22nd of January 1917 Leslie returned to Australia for home service. He was discharged on the 11th of April 1917. Leslie re-enlisted on the 9th of September 1919 and was allocated service number 86272. He embarked from Sydney for Special Services A.I.F on the 18th of September 1919. Leslie returned to Australia on the 21st of October 1919, as a “Defaulter” and was discharged “undesirable.” He died on the 18th of July 1986.
