Record of Service:
William McIlwraith was born on the 3rd of January 1876 in Stranraer, Scotland. He immigrated to Australia about 1900 and was working as a Clerk in Laidley, Queensland when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 11th of March 1916. William was allocated service number 515 and embarked from Melbourne on the 16th of December 1916 with the 8th Reinforcements, 13th Machine Gun Company.
Prior to embarking, on the 29th of November 1916, William was promoted to Acting Corporal. He disembarked at Plymouth on the 18th of February 1917. On the 24th of February 1917 he reverted back to Private and marched out to the Machine Gun Training Depot. On the 17th of December 1918 he transferred to HQ A.I.F depot in the U.K. On the 18th of June 1919 he was promoted to E.R Corporal.
He discharged from the A.I.F in England on the 6th of December 1919 and died on the 3rd of September 1954.
