    Edward Blomeley was born about 1887 in Ballarat, Victoria. He was working as an Iron Founder when he enlisted in the A.I.F on the 7th of January 1916. Edward was allocated service number 1659 and embarked from Melbourne with the 2nd Reinforcements, 57th Battalion on the 4th of April 1916.

     

    After disembarking at Alexandria, Edward was taken on strength with the 59th on the 24th of May 1916 and proceeded to join the B.E.F on the 18th of June 1916. Edward was in France for less than a month before his Battalion fought at the Battle of Fromelles, where he was Wounded in Action (GSW Hand) on the 19th of July 1916.

     

    After recovering from his wounds, Edward was taken on strength with the Permanent Cadre Engineer Training Depot and promoted to Temporary Corporal on the 1st of August 1918. He returned to Australia on the 2nd of September 1919.

     

    Edward died at No. 11 Australian General Hospital on the 29th of October 1919 from a cerebrella tumor and exhaustion. He now rests in the Ballarat Cemetery, Victoria.

     

    His brother, 161 Private Leopold Blomeley also served with the 59th BN.
