    Record of Service:

     

    James Smythe was born on the 6th of February 1923 in Brisbane, Queensland. He was working as a Shop Assistant when he joined the RAAF on the 15th of December 1941. James was allocated service number 44045 and enlisted as a trainee wireless mechanic.

     

    On the 30th of August 1942 James transferred to become a trainee radio operator and on the 21st of December 1942 was graded as a Radio Operator. On the 26th of April 1943 he was promoted to L.A.C and on the 1st of December 1943 Temporary Corporal.

     

    James served at No. 28 Radio Station, 52 R.D.F. Station, 42 Radar Wing, 322 Radar Station and 26 Radar Station. He survived the war and discharged from the RAAF on the 24th of January 1946. He died in Brisbane on the 27th of November 1985.
