    Record of Service:

     

    Thomas Grant was born about 1880 in Townsville, Queensland. He was working as a Rigger when enlisted in the A.I.F on the 21st of December 1914. Thomas enlisted under the alias “Thomas Lewis” and incorrectly stated that he had been born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was allocated service number 1376 and embarked from Brisbane on the 13th of February 1915 with the 2nd Reinforcements, 9th Battalion.

     

    Thomas joined the 9th Battalion at Gallipoli on the 7th of May 1915. Four days later, on the 11th of May 1915 he was charged with “Sleeping on his post.” He was found guilty by F.C.M and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, which was later reduced to 3 years hard labour.

     

    On the 7th of March 1916 he was admitted to the 1st A.G.H suffering from a septic hand. The infection spread to his arm and he returned to Australia for discharge on the 12th of April 1916. He was discharged M.U from the 1 M.D on the 2nd of August 1916. He died from Illness in Goodna, Queensland on the 7th of September 1919.
